Dakin Sloss is Founder and General Partner of Prime Movers Lab. He also serves as Chairman of Tachyus, where as the founding CEO he built the leading prescriptive analytics company in the oil and gas industry. Tachyus’ breakthrough technology synthesizes machine learning and physics to dramatically increase production and reduce costs.
Dakin also co-founded OpenGov, where as CEO he recruited the core team, secured millions in angel funding and venture capital, arranged the initial pilot partnerships, and launched the world’s most advanced smart government platform. Before OpenGov, he built California Common Sense, the premiere California open data and government watchdog non-profit. Dakin earned a BS in Mathematics from Stanford University in 2011. In 2016, Dakin was recognized as the featured Forbes 30 Under 30 energy entrepreneur. In 2017, he was named as a San Francisco Business Times 40 Under 40 honoree.
Dr. Edward Moses is a Partner and CTO for Prime Movers Lab. He evaluates the technology and market potential of our investments and advises portfolio companies on developing groundbreaking technologies.
Ed has managed billions of dollars of R&D investment across his 35+ year leadership at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), including as Director of the National Ignition Facility, the world’s largest and most energetic laser system, and as President of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT). He has had responsibility for supporting DOE, DoD, private industry, and discovery science missions. Previously, he was a founding partner of Advanced Technology Applications, which advised clients on executing high-technology projects.
Ed received his doctorate from Cornell University. He has won many awards from DOE scientific, project, and service organizations. He holds several patents, has published extensively in the peer-reviewed literature, and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Dan Slomski is a Partner and Principal Engineer for Prime Movers Lab. As a systems engineer, he performs in-depth due diligence into potential investments and supports portfolio companies in analyzing and overcoming mission critical technical design and execution challenges. Dan has designed patented systems for a range of applications including biotech, energy, consumer electronics, and materials.
Dan previously served as a Systems Engineer for Gener8 designing, researching and prototyping electro-mechanical systems primarily for biotech applications. Prior to Gener8, as Lead Hardware Engineer at Tachyus, he invented a multi-phase flow fluid analyzer and built an elite team to design and field trial the device. In earlier consulting engagements, Dan created a machine vision camera solution, a rugged computer case, and numerous industrial art projects. He began his career at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he developed an analyzer to perform compositional element analysis of drilled material. Dan earned his BS in physics from Penn State University.
Decker Cunov is a Partner and Executive Coach for Prime Movers Lab. As a mediator and coach he challenges organizations to attain extraordinary levels of teamwork and performance. His 1:1 coaching focuses on CEOs effectively empowering themselves, their executives and organizations. Decker has also served as mediator for over $1.3 billion worth of business deals.
Decker previously coached the Founders Fund team and their most promising portfolio companies. He has coached startups from their first pitch, through board-level conflicts, to acquisition and even to starting again. Prior to his consulting, Decker co-founded a one-of-a-kind residential homeless program in San Francisco called Arkhouse. Later he founded Authentic World and The Integral Center, leading programs on advanced communication skills and certifying coaches around the world. He began his career team-building and mediating as a medic in the military, preparing soldiers for leadership roles.
JJ Moi is a Partner and Creative Director for Prime Movers Lab. As a designer, he evaluates the products of potential investments and engages deeply with portfolio companies to develop differentiated branding, marketing, and design strategies. JJ has created brand identities, websites, web applications, ad campaigns, and physical products across startups, large institutions, governments, and design agencies.
Previously, JJ was the Creative Director at OpenGov, where he was the lead designer for the world's leading open government platform. Before OpenGov, he supported world-leading brands in their design and branding efforts through multiple top-tier design agencies. He continues to be a design mentor at Out of Office Hours and Designlab teaching aspiring designers about the tricks of the trade. He has also previously served as an innovation specialist at 18F, a US government innovation laboratory. JJ completed postgraduate studies in New Media from Academy of Art University and earned a BFA in Industrial Design from Rangsit University.
