Accelerated team connection/creativity

Have you ever said to someone when you shared a thought or idea in the same instant, “We must be on the same wavelength?” It turns out that when dyads or groups of individuals are in sync while working, collaborating or brainstorming with one another that their brains and physiology literally synchronize! This has been shown in optimal performing teams, like submarine navigation or students solving chemistry problems together. Ongoing research helped to quantify what is happening in the brain, including recent work demonstrating brain signatures for group flow!

With this new quantitative perspective, the focus may now shift on how to create those instances of team flow and connection so that environments and experiences might be engineered to elicit them. It’s not unreasonable to expect that by the end of this decade, brainstorming will be passe and brain synchrony will be used to enhance connectivity and creativity in teams.
